Video: Nest-inspired Design for a Baby Shower
To make something special for a girlfriend’s baby shower, I found inspiration in nature. This design pulls from the interwoven structure of a bird’s nest—building a structure of support and safety—all within an eggshell vase. I feature “mums” for the new mom, along with blue blooms for a baby boy, and curly willow branches to signify the nest of home.
I liked the contrast created by the soft, vintage look of chrysanthemums along with the edgy thistle and curly branches. All of the flowers are easy to find, and it was a rather quick design to create. You can use pink flowers if the mom-to-be is expecting a baby girl.
I was excited to share these flowers with my friend and wish her lots of happiness. I hope the idea inspires you to experiment on your own.
For a twist on the concept, I also made some nest-like creations that could replace the need for a vase, placing the flowers into foam (blocks) hidden within. I again used the dried, curly willow branches—weaving them with eucalyptus and limonium to give it a more natural look.
Materials used for these projects:
· Curly willow branches, dried
· Seeded eucalyptus
· White chrysanthemums, two sizes
· Thistle
· Limonium, misty blue color
